Ember management in Barnstorm decides more sieges than card levels do. Every card costs Ember, the bar only holds 10, and the player who spends it a little smarter usually takes the extra crown. Here are practical Barnstorm Ember tips you can use in your very next battle.
How Ember works in Barnstorm#
- You start each battle with 5 Ember, and the bar holds 10.
- Ember refills at one point every 2.8 seconds.
- In the final minute and in overtime, both players refill twice as fast: one point every 1.4 seconds.
- Refilling stops when the bar is full, so every second you sit at 10 is Ember thrown away.
If you are new to sieges, our Barnstorm beginner guide covers the fortress, crowns and the clock first.
1. Never sit at 10 Ember#
A full bar is the most common beginner leak. At 2.8 seconds per point, waiting ten seconds at full Ember wastes more than three points, roughly a whole Lion Knight. If your bar is about to cap and nothing is happening, play a cheap card at the back of your side, like War Hounds (1) or Squires (2). It cycles your hand and starts a slow push instead of wasting a refill.
2. Let your opponent spend first#
At the start of a battle you both have 5 Ember. Whoever commits first shows their hand. If you can, wait, react, and defend on your own side where your Bastions help you. A good defense that costs less than the attack gives you an Ember lead you can turn straight into a counter-push.
3. Win the Ember trade#
Think of every exchange as a trade. If your opponent spends 4 Ember on a push and you stop it with 3, you are one point ahead. Splash cards are the classic way to win trades: an Arrow Volley that clears a swarm like Desert Raiders usually saves you far more than it costs.
4. Punish big spends#
When your opponent drops an expensive card, they are low on Ember for the next few seconds. That is the moment to send your win condition to the other lane. The Battering Ram is perfect for this: it ignores troops, charges straight for buildings and lands its first blow for double damage.
5. Build a deck you can afford#
Your deck builder shows the average Ember cost. The sample decks in our Barnstorm decks guide sit between 2.75 and 3.25. Lower averages cycle back to your best card faster; higher averages hit harder but can leave you stuck holding cards you cannot pay for. Mix in one or two cheap cycle cards so you always have a play.
6. Use fusion for free value#
Fusing two cards in your hand costs no Ember; you only pay the fused card's cost when you deploy it. That turns two cards into one stronger play and keeps your cycle moving. After each fusion the crucible cools for 15 seconds. See every public recipe in our Barnstorm fusion guide.
7. Save your push for the last minute#
In the final minute Ember comes twice as fast for both sides. That favors big, layered pushes: a tank up front, support behind it and a spell ready for the counter. If crowns are tied, overtime keeps double Ember and the first crown wins, so plan one strong push instead of trickling cards in.
Quick Ember checklist#
- Is my bar about to fill? Play something cheap.
- Did my opponent just spend big? Pressure the other lane.
- Can I defend this push for less than it cost?
- Is it the last minute? Build one big push.
Master these habits and you will climb the Trophy Road faster without upgrading a single card. Ready to put them to work? Open Barnstorm and start your next siege.
